I’m a firm believer that everything done with honesty and integrity will go through the spin cycle of what I call alignment. FashionAFRICANA is no stranger to alignment, the work they’ve done for over a decade never ceases to amaze those who’ve watched their trajectory. FashionAFRICANA has cultivated safe spaces for Black creatives; storytellers, models, visual artists, and has presented the work of many iconic visionaries including the one and only BLITZ THE AMBASSADOR aka Blitz Bazawule.
Who is Blitz Bazawule? I’m glad you asked! Ghanaian-born, Blitz Bazawule is a brilliant filmmaker and musician who performed at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater in 2011 in celebration of FashionAFRICANA’S 10th Anniversary, and he’s the director of the highly anticipated film “The Color Purple'' featuring the talented cast of Halle Bailey (Nettie), Elizabeth Marvel (Miss Millie), Taraji P. Henson (Shug Avery), Louis Gossett Jr (Old Mister), and Colman Domingo (Mister). FashionAFRICANA has celebrated artists and their work we’ve all come to know and love, and I couldn't be more grateful.
